Analysis of the difference between ordinary lathe, CNC lathes, vertical lathe
November 07, 2023
Vertical lathe belongs to large machinery and equipment, used for processing large radial size and axial size is relatively small, complex shape of large and heavy workpieces. Such as a variety of disks, wheels and sets of workpieces of cylindrical surfaces, end faces, conical surfaces, cylindrical holes, tapered holes and so on. It can also be used for thread turning, spherical turning, profiling, milling and grinding with the help of additional devices. Compared with the horizontal lathe, the workpiece is clamped inside the clamping device of the horizontal lathe. While the vertical lathe spindle axis is vertical layout, the table surface is in the horizontal plane, so it is more convenient to clamp the workpiece and find the right. This layout reduces the load of the spindle and bearings, so the vertical lathe can maintain the work accuracy for a longer period of time.
Difference between ordinary lathe, CNC lathes and vertical lathes
Vertical lathe is mainly used for large parts and its spindle is vertical. It can process internal and external cylinders, conical surfaces, end planes, grooves, chamfers and so on, and the workpiece clamping, calibration and other operations are more convenient. Vertical lathe also has CNC. Due to the increasing shortage of talents with high technical level, new enterprises mostly use CNC to improve productivity and product quality, and reduce scrap rate and cost.
Ordinary lathes rely on gears and ordinary screw nut transmission. Due to the existence of gaps between the various motion subs, coupled with inaccurate manual operation, so the repetition accuracy is low. Ordinary lathe needs to be measured manually after stopping the machine, which is characterized by large measurement error and low efficiency. It is suitable for small batch, not high precision requirement and zero work type parts. It has lower investment than CNC but requires higher operating skills for workers, so the wage level is high. The scrap rate and productivity of low level workers will give you headache.
The difference between a vertical lathe and an ordinary lathe is that its spindle is vertical, which is equivalent to standing an ordinary lathe upright. Because its table is in a horizontal position, it is suitable for machining heavy parts with large diameters and short lengths.
The CNC lathe relies on the stepping motor to drive the ball screw transmission, because the ball screw can be overloaded, transmission without clearance, accuracy is mainly guaranteed by the machine itself and the program. In the process of machining can be automatically measured, and can automatically compensate for tool wear and other reasons for error. So the machining quality is good and the precision is stable. It can also be programmed to turn parts with complex shapes that are difficult to be processed by ordinary lathes. It is suitable for high precision, large batch and complex shape parts. But it is also good for small batch production. Its maintenance cost is higher than ordinary lathe.
